Paramedics were called to a pregnant woman stuck in a car during the traffic chaos near the A23 Handcross Hill last night (Monday March 11).

South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) arrived in London Road at around 8pm.

A spokesperson said that the woman was not in labour but needed medical assistance in relation to her pregnancy.

A paramedic was coincidentally already attending a different incident nearby, and reached the patient within 15 minutes.

However, the ambulance took considerably longer to reach her.

The service said transport to East Surrey Hospital in Redhill arrived within the hour.

SECAmb paid tribute to paramedics and volunteers who helped as snow caused chaos across the Horsham district.

A spokesman said: “We are really proud of how hard our staff worked through the night and would like to thank all our volunteers who help.

“It was already extremely busy before the snow came and we were working to make sure we prioritised incidents.”

He added: “We would like to advise drivers to not make the journey unless it is essential.”
