TROPHIES have been presented to the winners of the 2013 Champions Pairs at Southwick’s Old Barn Way Bridge Club.

Sue Cottrell and Harry Treadwell were presented with their trophies by Peter Metcalfe, chairman of Adur District Council, last Wednesday.

They achieved an average score of 60.08 per cent for their best three results in a five-match series.

It was a narrow victory – only a fraction of one point better than runners-up Sue Howley and Howard Da Vall, who achieved 59.61 per cent.

More than 40 club players took part in the bridge championship matches, played in the Green Room at the Adur Indoor Bowls Club.

Mr Metcalfe congratulated Jill and Dave Armstrong, who host the bridge club, on making it such a success.

He said he was delighted to make the presentations, as the game was becoming ever more popular in the Adur district.

The club facilities were excellent, he added, and he said he was pleased to learn that partners were always provided for people who went on their own.

The fact lessons were available for beginners impressed him, and he was also pleased to see that improvers could gain confidence by playing together on separate tables at the Wednesday afternoon club sessions.

The club meets at Adur Indoor Bowls Club every Wednesday at 1.30pm. Visit www.oldbarnwaybc.co.uk
