Towers Convent in Upper Beeding is hosting a series of charity events and entertainment next weekend to raise funds for cancer charity over the solstice period.

The funds raised will be in support of Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer in honour of parents, one member of staff and Sister Patrick who are all undergoing treatment for various types of cancer.

‘Summer Solstice’ weekend, June 21 and 22, will include different events aimed at pupils, parents, friends and the local community.

On Saturday, June 21, the auction/lockery evening will include a chilli supper, licensed bar and live music as past and present pupils perform ‘songs from the shows’ ranging from Fiddler On The Roof to this year’s Sound of Music. In addition, there will be the chance to bid on some wonderful prizes.

On Sunday, June 22, a ‘fun run’ will be held following a scenic route along bridleways and byways onto the Downs at 10am. Entry fee is £10.

Starting from 3pm the Solstice Summer Fete will take place with live entertainment, workshops, Irish dancing, yoga class and much more.

Then from 6pm onwards the barbecue is lit and live bands will take to the stage. A bar will be available and tasty selection of meat and vegetarian alternatives will be on the grill.

The school have also created a red tape line where people can leave their coin donations and make a ‘mile of money’.

If you would like to take part in any of the events, visit www.towersconvent.org.uk/solstice/index.aspx for more details, or call 01903 812185.
