CHILDREN under eight are being offered a free swim, as Wadurs Pool in Shoreham makes a bid to rekindle the Olympic fever of a year ago.

Impulse Leisure is hoping to encourage people to get active and keep children busy during the school holidays.

On Saturday and Sunday, children under eight can swim for free in public sessions. Fun splash sessions and swim lessons are excluded and children must be accompanied by an adult.

Karl Hayes, group operations manager, said: “While it’s great to relax after a long school year, it’s also important to make sure that kids stay active during the holidays – and the longer days are the perfect time for adults to join in and give something new a try, too.

“Kids aged five to 16 need to do at least 60 minutes of physical activity that gets their heart beating faster than usual, and they need to do it every day to burn off calories and prevent them storing up excess fat.

“So why not take advantage of our free sessions and make sure this summer is a happy and healthy one?”

To commemorate the closing ceremony of the 2012 Games, Impulse Leisure will run a second programme and free family-friendly activities on September 7, including Super Saturday, when taster exercise classes will run all day for members and non-members to try.
