SWASHBUCKLING adventures on the high seas were enjoyed in a musical extravaganza at Upper Beeding Primary School.
The catchy songs were creatively choreographed with bold and energetic actions in Pirates of the Curry Bean.
Directed by music leader Corrine Wellby, assistant head Andrew Hughes and teacher Dani Brown, the musical featured a strong acting cast in an hilarious tale that had both teachers and children laughing throughout rehearsals.
Admiral Hornhonker was brilliantly played by Oskar Riches, backed by Leyla Sanane as Liza, Franck Lake as Jack and Millie Cadman as Pearl.
Mrs Wellby said: “The school always gives children the opportunity to experience the technical aspect of staging a production, including taking responsibility for sound (Drew Allan and Jake Griffiths) and lighting (Ollie Davis and Soli Albright).
“The breathtaking backdrop, which for the first time was painted straight onto the wall, was designed by the year five and six teaching staff.
“It has proved to be a big hit across the school, with many children insisting we don’t paint over it.”
Props were made by teaching assistants Amber Saunders and Bernie Elder with the key stage two art club.
Mrs Wellby added: “This is a great show full of fun and appalling puns, with lots of opportunities for visual humour.
“With foot stomping numbers, this year’s production was another roaring success.”
