THE scintillating music of The Cloggz will feature at Steyning Jazz Club.

Described as ‘healing music’ by one club member, the carefully-selected programme will feature a wide range of composers from Tom Waits to Brad Mehldau and Ennio Morricone to John Williams.

Headed by pianist Mark Edwards, the intricate ensemble takes in influences from jazz to tango and klezmer.

Colin Jilks, from Steyning Jazz Club, said some members had described their sound as ‘cinematic’.

“But the ethos, if understated, is always beautiful and melodic acoustic music,” he added.

Their playing intertwines with lyrical improvisation.

Mark Edwards, on piano and glockenspiel, brings together Julian Nicholas on saxophones, Ben Sarfas on violin, Neil Corin on accordion, Terry Pack on bass, Dave Trigwell on drums and Eden Townend on guitar.

They play at the jazz club, at the Steyning Centre in Fletchers Croft, Steyning, on Friday, August 2, at 8.30pm. Doors open 7.45pm. Call Denis Cummings on 01903 814017 for more information. Admissions is £6 members, £10 guests and £6 students.
