A SECOND charity book stall has been set up by Shoreham and Southwick Rotary Club.

The first was set up in Barclays Bank in Southwick Square in July, and now the bank’s branch in High Street, Shoreham, has join in, too.

Both book stalls are raising money for Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice.

The shelves are displaying a good supply of a variety of books, which are regular checked and topped up by club members.

Books can be purchased for a donation to the children’s hospice.

Rotarians from the club were also supporting the hospice during Shoreham River Fest, helping to man its charity stall on Coronation Green.

Les Baker said they had helped with the stall on Saturday, as well as running a successful teddy tombola, which raised £200 alone for the charity.

He added: “The largest, beautiful teddy on the stall was won by a little girl on holiday with her parents from the Czech Republic.

“She was so happy to have won Bertie Bear and said that he would have to ride on her lap on the aeroplane on the way home.

“All in all, a most rewarding day for our club to be involved in fundraising for our wonderful children’s hospice, Chestnut Tree House.”

There were 60 bears to win, with Bertie in pride of place in the middle of the stall.

Mr Baker said it sat there most of the afternoon, before he was finally won by the little girl.

“She was over the moon to win the bear,” he added.

The stall also featured a card game, similar to the show Play Your Cards Right.
