A MAN was shot with a crossbow and beaten by a gang of men during what is thought to be a targeted attack in Goring last night (Wednesday, November 20).
Police are appealing for witnesses following the attack outside Iceland, in Wallace Parade, in Goring Road, at around 6pm.
The 25-year-old victim was shot in the side with a crossbow and struck with a weapon – but escaped with only minor injuries.
Police do not believe it was a ‘random attack’.
Detective Inspector Andy Westwood, of West Sussex CID, said: “This was a violent incident close to what is usually a busy shopping precinct, although there were not many people around when the attack happened.
“Thankfully the victim has escaped with relatively minor injuries but this could have been far worse. We do not believe this was a random attack.
“I am keen to speak to anyone who saw or heard anything close to the Iceland store or who may have seen men running away from the scene that fit the description of the offenders.
“We will not tolerate violence on the streets of Worthing and are determined to track down these men.”
The attackers, who were wearing hooded tops and aged in their 20s or early 30s, ran away towards Worthing town centre.
The first attacker had a balaclava on, a white hooded top and dark trousers.
The second man was white, between 5ft 8 in and 5ft 10 in, with short dark hair.
He was wearing a plain white t-shirt and dark jeans and was carrying a black bag.
The third man was white and between 5ft 11 in and 6ft tall. He was wearing a dark tracksuit.
