ILL health has brought a late change to the Steyning Jazz Club programme for December.

Stan Tracey has had to cancel his appearance tomorrow owing to continuing ill health.

Instead, the Alan Barnes and Dave Newton Quartet will perform ‘an electrifying mêlée of creative alchemy’ at the Steyning Centre at 8.30pm.

Alan and Dave are two of the most ‘in demand’ jazz musicians in the UK today.

Alan, on saxophone and clarinet, has enjoyed a flourishing career and Dave, pianist, composer, arranger and accompanist, has been voted best jazz pianist in the British Jazz Awards six times.

Both musicians have given dazzling individual performances at the club in the past.

They return with Andy Cleyndert, on string bass, and Matt Skelton, on drums, for an evening of well-known mainstream jazz standards and original compositions.

Doors open at 7.45pm on Friday. Admission is £6 members, £10 guests and £6 students. For more details, call Denis Cummings on 01903 814017.
