Weekly Walks in Sussex

Sunday November 18, 10am: Meet at Counters Gate car park, Goodwood Country Park SU898113. An Autumnal look at the Drovers Estate, 9½ miles. A remote and undulating walk on downland either side of the Lavant Valley that also follows the river through three picturesque villages. Hilly in places. Dogs welcome on a lead. Please bring a snack. Leaders: Terry Owen and Peter Anderson, Per-Rambulations.

Sunday November 18, 10am: Meet at Dial Post village hall, TQ155195. Dial Post: Low Weald in Winter, 4 miles. A newly ‘wilded’ landscape, part of the Burrell estate, this walk seemingly takes us back to a medieval landscape, wildlife and mud! Leader: Geoffrey Mead, Sussex University.

Saturday November 17, 10:30am: Meet at the small car park (not marked on OS map), just below the ramparts of Cissbury Ring, high on the Downs above the village of Findon. Explorer Map 121/TQ139085. 5½ miles some hills. Walk via Cissbury Ring, High Salvington windmill and village of Findon. No dogs please.

Sunday November 18, 10am: Meet at Braypool Lane lay-by off A27. Explorer Map 122/TQ302095. 10 miles over Downland. Walk via Chattri, Ditchling Beacon, Streathill Farm, Stanmer Village (L), Great Wood, Piddingworth Plantation, Tegdown Hill. No dogs please.

Thursday November 15, 10am: Meet in Royal Oak car park, Wineham (TQ236206). Flat (some stiles) circular walk in lovely rural countryside towards Cowfold. Free, just turn-up. No dogs. 5 miles. Geoff 01403 258180 and Pat 240654.

Monday November 19, 10am: Park at the Owl Public House, Kingsfold (TQ168364, RH12 3SA). 5 mile circular walk, mostly flat but one short steep hill and some stiles, through fields and woodland. Good views in all directions. Good beer and food available. No dogs. 2¼ hours. Mike Powell 01403 242564.

Tuesday November 20, 10am: Meet in Kings Head car park (RH12 3EB, TQ091343). Rudgwick going east. Excellent views. A mostly flat circular walk towards Rowhook through woods and fields along the southern slope of the border ridge between Sussex and Surrey and back via Hermongers to the pub where Guiseppe will make us most welcome with his array of £6.50 two-course specials. Wednesday November 21, 10am: Park and meet in the Orchard Restaurant car park, West Grinstead, on A272 (TQ183225). Mostly flat, (some stiles) 4 to 5 mile circular walks through farmland, woods and along the Downs Link. Free, just turn-up. No dogs. Daniela 01403 276973 and Alex 273751.
