People in Bognor Regis and Chichester can take advantage of a free health assessment this month.

Health advisors from the Western Prevention Assessment Team are offering NHS Health Checks, which focus on preventing major causes of illness, including heart disease, stroke, diabetes and kidney disease.

These conditions are often avoidable and may be easily managed – and a health check could help to identify any potential issues before a problem develops.

The 30-minute appointment will include a blood pressure check as well as a finger-prick blood and cholesterol test and a discussion about family history, while also assessing lifestyle factors (such as smoking), age and levels of physical activity.

It aims to ensure people are able to make lifestyle changes now to improve their health in the future.

The checks, which are confidential, must be booked in advance and are available for anyone between 40 and 74 without an existing long-term condition.

Peter Catchpole, West Sussex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Adults’ Services, said: “These are valuable services that have proven benefits in helping to catch problems early, which can make a real difference in years to come.

“I would recommend anyone who is eligible to book themselves an appointment.”

In Bognor Regis, the sessions will take place in the Wellbeing Annexe (attached to the Town Hall) on Tuesday, January 8.

The Westgate Leisure Centre will host the Chichester checks on Wednesday, January 16.

To book your free NHS Health Check on either of these dates, please call 01243 642370.

Sessions will also be taking place at more locations across the county. To find out more about these health checks, visit www.westsussex.gov.uk
