Medical experts will be in a number of West Sussex Libraries this month to help people get fit for 2013.

The free health and wellbeing sessions, part of the service’s “New Year, new you” initiative, are being held in Chichester, Witterings and Willowhale Libraries.

Specialist advisors at the events will be carrying out body and oral hygiene checks and will also be helping people lose weight and quit smoking.

The health sessions start in Chichester Library at 10am, on Saturday January 19, before returning at the same time on Wednesday January 23, and at 1pm on Tuesday January 29.

The branch, in Tower Street, will also be holding free teeth and mouth checks at 9:30am on Monday January 28.

Meanwhile the Alzheimer’s Society will be advising people on how to cope with dementia, as well as explaining what services it offers, from 9:30am on Monday January 21.

Witterings Library, which is also holding free health sessions from 10am on Thursday January 24, has urged nearby residents needing full-time care to attend its one-off session with the Carers Support charity.

The Chichester-based organisation, which helps look after elderly and disabled people, will be at the branch from 10am on Friday January 25.

A final oral hygiene health session is taking place in Willowhale Library at 10:30am on Tuesday January 29.

Lionel Barnard, County Council Deputy Leader responsible for the Library Service, said: “These sessions are perfect for anyone looking for a positive start to 2013.

“The free body and teeth checks are aimed people of all ages, who do not need to be a library member to take part.

“They also provide vital information for people who either suffer from or know someone with mental or physical health concerns.”
