SEWAGE is being pumped into the River Lavant because of ‘all-high’ groundwater levels.
Water testing at Singleton has revealed there is harmful bacteria in the water, but the Environment Agency said contamination and bacteria levels are ‘not at a level which should cause mass panic’.
Southern Water has defended the decision to relieve pressure on the already overloaded drains, saying the process will reduce the risk of flooding.
